Jane High, a resident of Scratby, near Great Yarmouth, became the proud caretaker of this unique model village four years ago. Originally crafted by Alan Sewell, the village found its way to High after his passing, and she has since dedicated herself to its preservation and expansion.
"It's a labor of love," High explains. "The models bring a smile to people's faces, and that's the whole point. It's a hobby that has become a delightful obsession."

High's connection to the model village runs deep. She recalls her childhood fascination with the model village in Great Yarmouth, where she once painted figures for similar displays. This early experience sparked a lifelong appreciation for the art of miniature worlds.
"I have a soft spot for these little villages," she says. "They capture a sense of community and imagination that's hard to resist."
A Village Reborn
The process of reviving the village was no small feat. High had to carefully dismantle it, transport it, and then reassemble it over the course of a summer. The effort was worth it, as the village now boasts over 20 intricate buildings, each with its own story to tell.
"The attention to detail is remarkable," High notes. "From the concrete roads to the carefully crafted church, every element has a purpose and a story."
Unconventional Charm
What sets this model village apart is its unconventional blend of themes. Alongside traditional scenes like the 1960s garage and forge, you'll find unexpected additions like dinosaurs and Doctor Who figures. High explains this as a nod to the village's modern-day audience: the kiddies who keep the village alive with their curiosity and imagination.
"It's a delightful mix of the old and the new," she muses. "The dinosaurs and Daleks add a layer of fantasy and fun that keeps the village relevant and engaging."
